I'm Brea, and I have worked in the birth world since 2019. First at the birth center in Manistee as a birth assistant, and currently in Mason, Oceana, and Manistee counties as a midwifery student in my final phase of training. I had a really traumatizing delivery with my first born which led me down a path of research and recovery. By the time I had my second, I felt informed and prepared, which led to an empowering and healing midwifery assisted birth experience. One thing that I knew I wanted to do the second time around was encapsulate my placenta in hopes of having a better recovery postpartum physically, mentally, and emotionally. I really wanted to take charge of my healing journey, and this was going to be a part of it! I noticed when taking the capsules that they really made me feel energized and emotionally stable, which was really great while it lasted. What I didn't know, was that you could make a tincture for long term use, which I wish I had known and had available to me a year and a half postpartum when I was hit with postpartum depression. Even today, seven years postpartum and navigating hormonal imbalances, I wish I still had my placenta and wonder how different things may be if I knew then what I know now. Learning more about placenta preservation and it's use in traditional use in Chinese medicine, I feel compelled to educate women on their options for self-healing from this amazing organ created for you and your baby. You only get one chance with each birth and you can never go back and redo things! I believe that the placenta is such an amazing organ worth preserving and that each woman should be educated on it in order to make that decision for herself before disposing of it as hazardous waste. If encapsulation or keeping it for other reasons is not for you, I highly encourage you to ask for a tour of it. Seeing your babies home from the outside is truly amazing!
